Ogburn Berries & Produce is a family-owned strawberry and produce farm since the 1910s. They have a large covered roadside building where they sell produce, they have grown themselves. Their stand typically has a good variety of vegetables and fruits. They also offer jarred goods and local honey. Their stand is located at 13065 Old Stage Road, Willow Spring, NC 27592. 

Sim Ogburn is the farmer/grower of all the fruits and vegetables. Sim is a fourth-generation farmer, working the same ground as his ancestors did. Sim’s grandfather, Simeon Lloyd Ogburn, bought the farm constructed the house in the early 1900s that is next to their produce stand.  Through the years, their farm has produced tobacco, soybeans, oats, wheat, rye, grain sorghum, and corn. Sim was awarded the Wake County  Agribusiness Council’s Outstanding Young Farmer Award in 2014.

Stephenson’s Bar-B-Q located at 11964 NC 50 Hwy N, Willow Spring, NC 27592 is a phenomenal Bar-B-Q restaurant. Stephenson’s is listed in Bob Garner’s Book of Barbeque: North Carolina’s Favorite Food. Stephenson’s Bar-B-Q is a local tradition, and it lives up to its reputation. 

Population Growth and Economic Development

Since the 1850s up until the 1970s, farming was the primary activity of the population in Willow Spring. Aerial photographs of this area from before the 1980s are a sea of patchwork of plowed fields and pastures. Since the 1980s up until today the rural farm area is being slowly overtaken by housing developments. As each year passes by and the urban sprawl continues from the larger cities and towns to the north, it is probably safe to say that Willow Spring will develop more and more into residential developments and there will be less agriculture enterprises to be found.  

Willow Spring is located in the bottom southern portion of Wake County. Willow Spring has convenient access to US Interstate 40 via NC 42.
